Pilot study of AI assistance used for prostate biopsy diagnosis improves reporting time and results in tumor size measurements that better correlate with sizes measured from radical prostatectomy specimens

Ipatimup laboratories recently published a real-world pilot study in Pathology - Research and Practice. This observational pilot study considered 55 patients who had undergone radical prostatectomies, where pathologists first diagnose the prostate biopsy, then based on the findings, proceed with radical prostatectomy surgery. Two real-world cohorts were compared by examining laboratory records: in C1, the biopsies were diagnosed without AI assistance, and for C2 the biopsies were diagnosed using the Paige Prostate software for cancer detection, grading, quantification and perineural invasion detection as part of standard of care. The biopsies diagnosed with AI assistance were reported significantly faster to patients (by 24 hrs), and the tumor size measured on the biopsy was better correlated with the radical prostatectomy tumor size when AI assistance was used.
